DAVOUT Louis-Nicolas, duc d'Auerstaedt, prince d'eckmühl

Celui qui allait devenir le meilleur maréchal de l'Empire commence son apprentissage à l'école militaire de Paris à l'age de 15 ans. Acquis aux idées nouvelles, il est élu à la tête du 3ème bataillon des volontaires de l'Yonne.

Il est nommé général de brigade à l'armée de Moselle où il se signale en 1797.

L'année suivante, il participe à la campagne d'Egypte et se distingue dans plusieurs batailles.

Nommé général de division en 1800, il participe à la campagne d'Italie, puis reçoit le commandement des grenadiers à pied de la garde consulaire.

en 1804, il devient colonel général des grenadiers de la garde impériale en même temps il est elevé à la dignité de maréchal.

Il prends part à la bataille d'Austerlitz en 1805 et contribue à la victoire.

En 1806, il écrase l'armée prussienne forte de 50 000 hommes avec les 28000 hommes de son 3ème corps.

Nommé duc d'Auerstaedt en 1808, il sert brillamment en 1809, pendant la campagne d'Autriche et est décisif lors de la bataille de Wagram.

Il participe à la campagne de Russie et devient gouverneur de Hambourg en 1813.

Evincé par la restauration, il ne reprend ses activités, après avoir été ministre de la guerre durant les cent-jours, qu'en 1817.

Il devient pair de France en 1819 et meurt à Paris en 1823.

He became a peer of France in 1819 and died in Paris in 1823.
